Sex; is a no longer taboo subject in this day in age in the United States. Being a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I was always taught since a very young age, that sex was a beautiful thing that was only meant for a husband and wife. My parents have been appropriately open about this subject so I could understand the importance and sacredness of sex. By reading Lauer & Lauer, I was able to learn many new things I never knew w but I was able to make some connections with people that I knew in high school. In the Latino community, young women have the highest teen pregnancy rates out of all ethnic groups in the country. Typically, those who are in that category, usually deal with drug abuse, a single parent, or are in the lower class. To prevent this, it all comes down to family values, once there are no values, there are no standards. It is important to teach our kids the importance of keeping our standards high. By having two parents in a household, you will be able to demonstrate a healthy relationship if those two adults will work for a healthy relationship, they will be able to show their children how families are supposed to be formed. In order to be successful with this, it is important to create these strong bonds with your children so the families can be able to talk about these things and your kids will want to go to the parents when they are going through personal trials. I think one of the main causes that young teens get in these situations is because they do not have strong relationships with their parents. This will result in sneaking around, feeling lost, and even low self-esteem. Parents need to take a stand and have these uncomfortable conversations and be there for their children. A couple years ago in my congregation, our second hour was starting to get heated. The bishop was discussing how the members of the ward need to be vocal about how kids need to be careful during these times because sex has become such a casual thing. Members were asking if the church would hold a session about the importance of the sacredness of keeping the law of chastity. Parents live with their children, you cannot rely on church leaders, teachers, or other parents to teach your kids good morals. Sex has become such a casual thing with shows, the media, and people not valuing it at all. The term "sex" is not even used anymore, and for my age, it was never used in the first place. It was always "sleep with somebody", "how many bodies do you have", or even "smash". People are lowering their standards and are losing their values because people are now stating that sleeping around is empowerment. When families have a strong dynamic, they will be able to produce strong families by raising kids that will be able to go to them and have their own core values. Teaching your own kids values at home will create a bond that will be tough to break. Abstinence will create healthy relationships between the couple and the family. It will prove your love for each other and will not affect the lives of innocent children who will be born in a loving home with both parents, instead of being punished for a couple not being careful. Kids do not deserve to be caught between two parents, that was on the parents for not being careful. With the following standards of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, families will be able to be strong and united.
Family Dynamic
As we go through many changes in our society, one thing, in particular, is standing out to me. Fewer and fewer people are choosing to get married. There can be some reasons that prevent some from marrying not by chose like not being able to find an eligible partner, but others are willingly choosing not to. People are choosing to put their careers first, fear commitment/divorce, or have no time to find a partner in this crazy world because of a time-consuming schedule. It is important to teach these values to our children and our peers because the lack of marriage is diminishing family connections. Coming from a Mexican/Peruvian household, the older generation is married while out of 12 grandchildren who are in their late 20s early 30s, only one three are married. And out of the three marriages, one of them had three teen pregnancies in their high school career and the other resulted in a birth before marriage. With the third marriage, they were married in the Saint...
